Tampakan seeks technical assistance from TESDA XII
KORONADAL CITY, March 11 (PIA) -- The local government of Tampakan, South Cotabato is seeking the assistance of TESDA 12 for its manpower development and job placement program and the eventual establishment of a municipal skills training center in that municipality.
Mayor Leonardo V. Escobillo said the municipality needs to immediately address lack of skilled manpower since Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI), a mining firm operating in the area would be needing a huge number of middle-level manpower to do the various construction and other operational projects of the company.
He said he wants residents of his municipality to be given preference in the employment in the company, thus the necessity of appropriate skills training for them.
To institutionalize a community-based manpower and skills development and job placement services, LGU Tampakan thought of entering into an agreement with TESDA XII and SMI to collaborate in the planning and implementation of the program.
A draft Memorandum of Partnership Agreement was finally discussed between TESDA 12, SMI and the LGU on January 27.
The parties agreed to: design and implement a manpower and skills development program to local communities; establish a Manpower Training Center at Tampakan, South Cotabato; train and facilitate employment of the community members inside and outside the mining project of SMI; and equip the community members and designated technical training staff with the necessary information and skills for the implementation of various skills training programs and projects.
TESDA 12 will provide technical assistance for the planning, implementation, and success of this project, more particularly on the aspects of skills training and establishment of a municipal skills training center in Tampakan. (TESDA 12/DEDoguiles/PIA 12)
