Agreed on margin loans. I learned my lesson a couple of years ago.
I now have a line-of-credit against our principal residence, not the portfolio. Incidentally this arrangement results in a much lower rate.
And my VP Domestic Affairs now requires her express approval for extending the facility. Last time that cost a week in the Whitsundays.
I wonder if the ATO will allow that as a deduction - after all, it was an unavoidable cost associated with a loan for investment purposes.
