I've been watching the awful scenes in Japan and am getting very alarmed at the prospect of serious issues at five nuclear power plants. From what I have heard (on Al Jazzeira) they just handnt reckoned on a scenario of constant and strong aftershocks.
Hopefully they can get these under control but you have to think that, given they have already had to vent radioactive gas, that there will be second thoughts about the wisdom of having 30% of the nations power generation come from nuclear power in such an unstable region.
If things play out this way then reliable LNG supplies will be in much higher demand.
But for now let's just hope reports of imminent meltdowns are premature and that Japan can get through this and rebuild. Makes you realize how lucky we are.
