Having read the article by Dr Spencer, in the top part of the article he does describe in very basic terms how models work. A bit further into the article, when he gets to statements like 'I believe' he enters the realm of speculation based on no evidence at all, and his own wishful thinking. The gridding diagrams are helpful, though.
