When? Depends on how long the lawyers take to complete their billing quota.
We sold our business last year and the diligence which was expected to take 2 months actually took over 3 to complete. Their bill and our bill combined amounted to just on 5% of the acquisition value! Money for jam!!
Just my experience, the longer both parties stay engaged the better the likelihood of a deal. One key reason is the enormous cost of the transaction really tests sentiment and desire.
Been wrong before but on probability l think something will happen.
