I mostly agree with your statement regarding the stereotype understanding of energy resources.
Coal... bad & dirty - kills the planet (it certainly pollutes it, but does it kill it?), nuclear ... clean but dangerous (bad bad, when you don't know), coal seem gas... no one really knows about implications yet (certainly not the politicians), solar... to expensive, wind.... unreliable & too expensive, thermal.... well maybe, if everything else fails :), hydro...clean!works! but who knows the impact of the 3g dams.
Anyway, I agree with your final statement about the lobbyists and the government. Sad to have to a agree that its a fact. The lobbyist are the short term bonus seekers and the government is only interested in short term votes. SHORT TERM. God help us(which ever one you choose).
There is a huge amount of money wasted with very expensive projects that never bear any fruits because the political season has changed. Nuclear power is one of them. When was the last 8+ magnitude earthquake in Australia, France, India, US etc ?
Shutting off nuclear power plants (and projects for future ones...) is just ridiculous. It's a political thing at the moment. Ask any US or Russian fleet to retire their nuclear powered carriers and submarines. Ouch.
Looking forward to pick up some good stock here again when the nuclear dust has been blown away :)
