Originally, graphite tariffs were around 70%, and NVX’s share price fluctuated between $0.4 and $0.5. In mid-July, the U.S. Department of Commerce imposed a 93.5% anti-dumping duty on Chinese anode-grade graphite, pushing the effective tax rate to 160%. NVX experienced a surge, rising from $0.4 to $0.6. Today, Trump reduced the 160% tariff to 0%. For NVX, this is a completely devastating blow. A 0% tariff means the U.S. will import 100% of its graphite from abroad, stripping NVX’s products of all competitiveness. Musk won, MAGA lost. I expect the stock price on Monday to drop by 20%–30% and to continue declining until there is a change in policy.
