    I put it down to gold going up = risk aversion = ASX aversion = including everything, not just industrial metal & coal as the move also becomes a currency trade, I also suspect this is the reason ASX has completely underperformed the dow, if you priced the ASX in USD I bet it would look very similar to the dow.
