I have been thinking about switching my super to a smsf. Have started looking around at the options (particularly interested in using Praemium software) and came across this from one administrative service provider (McMasters - however they are not much use to me as they are interstate). I know it's nothing new but the comments about the Praemium software may be of interest to some:

Clients are not required to use Praemium or any other specific software package and are not required to use any specific cash management trusts or share broker services.

Praemium is the on-line portfolio administration service used by most SMSF service providers, except that they re-badge it under their own name (or a marketing tag) and jack the prices up, charging a premium on Praemium, and pretending its an exclusive service they created themselves.

McMasters does not do things this way.

The cheapest and simplest way to use Praemium is to sit down with one of our consultants to get set up on Praemium, and the good news is we do not charge for this service: it is completely complimentary for all McMasters' clients.

(i) daily portfolio management reports;
(ii) asset allocation strategies and comparison of actual allocation to planned allocation;
(iii) income and expense reports;
(iv) member contribution reports;
(v) member benefit component reports; and
(vi) pension payment information.
