One of the major projects within the NSW Health Telehealth Initiative is the Connecting Critical Care (CCC)/Telehealth Research Project. This is a research application exploring the use of Telehealth modalities in regional, rural and remote Intensive Care (ICU) and Emergency Care (ED) settings, to enhance service delivery and promote earlier intervention and stabilisation of patients. The trial has involved a number of sites across the state, and included the establishment of an Outreach and Education Support Network.
The presentation will provide a review of the development and implementation of the model, including a discussion of the factors which have contributed to the differences in uptake between the ICU and ED sites and offer lessons learned as a mechanism to inform future service planning.

At the heart of this problem are the difficulties in systems interoperability within the data, communications, device and business administration levels of a healthcare organization. This talk will look at the interoperability issues at each of these levels and how their solution could build a business ecosystem the better supports the sustainable delivery of remote care.
