GZ,
I have no problem with those who want to become aboriginal, mormans, baptists, republicans, fishermen, lefthanders or trapist monks. Everyone can do what they want, they are the captains of their own souls.
The point it leads to however is that being aboriginal is a lifestyle choice and not a matter of unavoidable genetics and should not lead to a special set of financial benefits.
I have no problem with those suffering disadvantage of opportunity from being given targeted assistance. However that assistance should be available to all Australians on the basis of need not on the basis of membership of a social group which one can choose to join.
