Hi Mal; great to hear from you. However, logic and Tas. politics do not go together well. If you google up Wart Hill at Elliott Bay you will find it is on the far side of Macquarie Harbour in S.W. Tas. No roads, power, infrastructure of any kind. Be easier in PNG Highlands!
There is little history of significant mining on the far (western) side of Macquarie Harbour and we are talking 20 - 30 Klm outside the Zeehan - Queenstown area. It is wilderness and that is the kiss of death in Tas ( even being near wilderness is the kiss of death for that matter ie.. look at the current troubles mining companies are having in the so called Tarkine area - a place with an extensive mining history amd current mining for that matter)
Billions of dollars of resources are not going to stop the various preservationist groups ( take you pick from dozens - our only growth industry - protest groups) seeing this as the next great project of satan etc...
In short, I think we should focus our resources in PNG instead of committing political suicide in the wilds of Tas. I hope that you are right Mal and me just a bit too cynical but Tasmanian rational outcomes is an oxymoron.
