"Mates, if there is a takeover, that means it's good for the holders right now....BUT, it won't be good if you have put into the equation that SDL would give you a very rosy and bountiful early retirement"

Right, that is my take on it as well. LT holders will end up taking the best price on offer - which is going to hurt a lot of people who had an 8 or more year plan in mind.

    It stacks up like this:

No takeover - business as usual, we all wait for DFS release, hope it's good news and this triggers way more buying and we all make more money as SP goes up. And - the genuine LT holders look to reap the rewards for many years to come.

Takeover - DFS gets released, we still hope it's good news because this means the takeover SP we are offered will be higher in direct proportion to how GOOD the DFS is. But we will also be placed between a rock and a hard place (pardon the pun) - take the money and the "long term vision" comes to an end, or remain a shareholder and face a very uncertain future. I don't know what that future would be like, because I don't know how generous Chinese ownership would be with profit sharing, etc, etc - but I am still prepared to say that MOST true blue Aussie investors would opt for the money in the bank rather than leave it in a company that is owned by foreigners.

Anyway, it's still all speculation and possible conspiracy theory at this time.

BTW, good post RVINTL - glad I'm not the only one who's devoting some thought to this - as I said, it makes for more interesting reading that most of what is being posted of late.
