One very good aspect of being enrolled in the cVac trial is that present indications are that the treatment has a very low rate of side effects/complications. The same cannot be said for many other treatments.
Not for a moment would I make a direct comparison with this treatment and the following story, but it does show the potential for new treatments to alter the whole profile of a disease almost overnight:
A medical classmate of mine presented with advanced teratoma of testis in his first year of residency in 1977, with cannonballs in his lungs. A lethal disease then. The hospital where he went for treatment received its first batch of cisplatin 3 weeks previously and he was the first patient treated for this disease there. He is alive and well today. It saved his life.
cVac is palliative treatment afaik so please please do NOT draw comparison from this other than to take away the message that treatments can come along that change the face of what has been a dreadful prognostic scenario for some diseases.
This is a very exciting company to be involved with as an investor (2 years for me).
The potential for cVac to make a real difference to patients with life threatening disease is the icing on a very interesting cake.
