But if the BHP Billiton takeover of WMC Resources was successful, it would leave Minara Resources's Murrin Murrin plant as the only nickel processor outside BHP in the state.
Glencore, which is the controlling interest in Xstrata, has a 40 per cent stake in Murrin Murrin, and a 49.7 per cent stake in Minara Resources. Yesterday, a spokesman for Minara said operations at Murrin Murrin would continue as normal. But the speculation over the future of Murrin saw Minara's share price jump 16c, or 8 per cent, to close at $2.07.
