BCI has said that ramp up to 5Mtpa depended on FMG's upgrade of port space at Port Hedland. The upgrade in question, was mainly a new berth -- berth 3 at FMG's Anderson Point in Port Hedland. Berth 3 was suppose to come online by mid 2012 according to one of BCI's older company updates. In the last BCI update, BCI seemed to indicate that a 5Mtpa production rate for the NJV, could be advanced by 6 months to early 2012 (1st quarter).
It only occurred to me now, that FMG's awarding of the contact, and the time for completion of the new berth, maybe running ahead of schedule. On checking, berth 3 should be finished by Nov 2011, not mid 2012.
The contracted trucking company for the NJV, Mitchell West will obtain a further 5, 360t payload Powertrans trucks for the NJV. These extra 5 Powertrans trucks will be operating by early 2012 (1st quarter). Taking the production rate for the NJV to 5Mtpa.
