If it is XP
Hold down windows button (four flags) and push R or Start/Run
type in devmgmt.msc and push enter/ok.
This is your device manager.
Do you get any icons looking like this...
if so it means your hardware doesn't have the software to talk to it. It can be fixed by just downloading and then installing the correct drivers.
If there is any, tell me what they are...
