Going off in a tangent to the original thread here but I think that there has been some good comments here and I think you will all find this interesting and it is quite important.

First round of presidential elections completed in Peru. Not a good result - Humala is the leader into the second round. In the past he has stated that Chavez he admires! Tosser yes!

He is coming out more liberal now but who really knows - is it a ploy to get elected?

The elections four years ago he also got through to the run-off second round. What saved Peru from an extreme left president is that all the runners-up that were eliminated - their supporters then voted for the 'remaining' centre right candidate. It may be probable that this happens again. The difference now is that Humala is claiming to be more liberal so may get in?

What I am interested in is - is there other people here that is keeping track on the political scene in Peru? And what is the thoughts on the current elections.

I am sincerely hoping that I am only being an alarmist.
