Kaya - come on. Those merchants would be selling everything just as quickly as they buy it. How else would their business survive? The kiosk owners and merchant/master franchisors don't have a bottomless pocket of money to hoard the gold.
They are in the business of buying the gold jewellery (on the cheap from Grandma or Mum struggling to pay the bills), adding value (melting it down), and then on-selling it. Maintains their cashflow, and they make a small margin on the side. They aren't in the business of hoarding the metal and speculating.
