Dear Ravi et.al.
What is BPT worth? How long is a piece of string?
A few considerations ...
* Book Value $1.20 (Comm$ec)
* UBS price target $1.09 (as of March 19 2011)
* BPT has been much higher than this pre-WFR
My view is that BPT is worth much more than current trade range and reserach house targets. As a share holder you would be totally aware that share prices vary considerably week-to-week and that current share price does not always equate to value. However MACD figures over the last 8 months suggest a growing strength in BPT and while it is difficult to presume past data on the future it seems that this strength will continue.
* What is the worth of the shale gas project in light of a gun shy post nuclear accident?
The Financial Review Smart Money p52 Apr 21-26 (The centre-piece for this thread)are a formalised and crystalised and clearer representation of my thoughts. Jo Clarke and Angela MacDonald-Smith have hit the nail on the head - perhaps synthesised in the statement bolded within the article "The wide range of views on the oil price could spur takeovers as the bulls look to buy underpriced (energy) stocks."
A company that is well run, tenacious (long term holders will remember a stormy BPT several years back), no debt, low duster record and geographically diversified always will be a preferable investment and an obvious takeover target.
$2 has always been my target. A few years back this was a real possibility as options were bought with confidence with this as a target. $2 is still my target. I will hold, trade and accumulate to that price. Mostly I hold 1/2 and trade the other 1/2.
Recently I sold completely out and made some very good profit (I needed to buy some easter eggs) but to do so leaves you vulnerable to be left out if something comes to light (takeover, considerable find) ... there are too many positive possibilities around the corner to be left out of the loop just at the moment. May/June/July look so exciting.
Sit down, buckle up and enjoy the ride! Good luck Ravi and other holders.
regards
Capt. Goodvibes
