Hi Keithos85, I'm not a pro - just semi-retired and trying to make a bit trading instead of going to work :D

I'm still using Metastock v7 that I bought quite a few years back now. It works fine on windows 7 and vista. I just use the end of day for overnight/weekend analysis. It has lots of built in functions and you can add your own and customise it. I expect the current version is an improvement and that there are other good apps out there. Will be interested what other people suggest.

For a trading platform I'm on Etrade Pro. It seems to be fairly trouble free these days. (Over its hiccups of several months ago when it was moved to Melbourne.) It has a reasonable lot of info/features - charts, indicators, alerts, company info, warrants etc.

There are a couple of very fancy platforms out there if you are prepared to pay a bit more. It depends on the type of trading you do and in what market (shares, forex etc). I mostly short/medium term trade the ASX at the moment, so don't need the type of platform that day traders would use.

BTW - multiple screens help a lot if you don't already have them.
