Supermajors have been buying shale gas and oil tenements up big time (ie. takeovers of companies holding these tenements- Exxon and XTO, Chevron and Atlas).
Also devoting internal technology sections to shale and oil gas recovery research... with the amount of money being poured into this research it will only become easier to recover these huge resources.
