"I havent really paid much attention to this issue since I gave as a gift new flat screen TV's to both sets of aged parents... The prices for these things are dropping so fast especially if you mention that you will buy two of them at the one time..."

    Further to my previous post...

In my limited experience, the price for a good size newset and latest model TV dropped drasticllay the moment I started talking about buying two of them...
I guess the salesman was on some sort of commission deal or sales quota and so incentivized by multiple item sales...

I can not imagine how low the price would drop if you were talking about thousands or tens of thousands of these, especially if you decided that the latest, full of high-tech gimicks, hot of the production line was not really necessary for the average pensioner.
So that in this case the retail shop might then have the added benefit of clearing out the previous models still in stock in a massive clearance sale...

Of course this would need to be controlled and so probably disqualifies this proposal from consideration as the gillard government does not seem to be able to manage anything much at all as per their demonstrated track record...

However, if you did in fact have a government that could potentially be able to manage the feat of ensuring that the models to be supplied , did not have manufacture dates back into the 1970's, such as a John Howard or similar government...
then this proposal, with free delivery and installation and full warrantee, would become workable...

Hard to see how an option such as this would not have been proposed to the gillard government by any number of the large retail chains or even wholesalers and manufacturers...

But there are few opportunities for massive rorts for conies with this proposed scheme and so....
