ASX/MEDIA RELEASE March 7, 2005 SDS Corporation Fluid Hammer successful performance in Mid Atlantic drilling project Leading mining distribution and manufacturing group SDS Corporation (ASX:SDS) today announced that in December, 2004, its revolutionary Fluid Hammer performed successfully in deep, Mid Atlantic Ridge drilling operations with Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP). The U.S. Implementing Organization (USIO) Science Services, Texas A&M University (TAMU), is the implementing organization of the IODP. The USIO/TAMU IODP is based in the College of Geosciences at TAMU, College Station, Texas. USIO/TAMU is a member of the JOI Alliance. The other two members of the JOI Alliance are Joint Oceanographic Institutions, Inc. (USIO Systems Integration Contractor) and Lamont- Doherty Earth Observatory's Borehole Research Group (USIO Science Services, LDEO). This was the first commercial contract that SDS has secured for the application of the Fluid Hammer for scientific ocean drilling as a key component of the IODP Hard Rock Re-entry System (HRRS). The project with the USIO/TAMU IODP resulted from a collaborative approach to developing the HRRS which enables the research vessel JOIDES Resolution to commence drilling into hard, smooth, sloping surfaces without the need for an ocean floor template, significantly reducing the time it takes to initiate, drill and case a hole in deep sea locations. According to Mr Kevin Grigar, Operations Engineer of the USIO/TAMU IODP, “SDS’s Fluid Hammer performed its task reliably and consistently, allowing us to install a re-entry system in a hard rock formation in 1644 meters of water. This hole has since been deepened to 1415.5 meters below sea floor.” SDS Corporation said: “This result with the IODP is a major step for the Group as it moves to commercialise the most advanced and cost effective hard rock drilling technology. “The SDS Fluid Hammer technology is currently under development for use in the oil and gas sector as the ‘Genie’ series of impact drills later in 2005” SDS has established a wholly owned subsidiary, IMPACT DRILLING INTERNATIONAL, to bring the ‘Genie’ series to market. The results from this program prove the commercial viability of the technology and are a significant step in establishing SDS as a technology leader in the oil and gas sector. “The first of the ‘Genie’ tools are currently being manufactured at SDS’s facility in Western Australia and beta testing is expected to commence with major oil and gas companies in March,” For further information, please contact: Fred Moir (08) 8276 7655 or 0417 823 288 About SDS SDS Corporation Limited is a leading Australian manufacturing and distribution company with major activity in the minerals industry.
