Hanrahan , yep, I think my old imac was headed in the same direction with the fan and the dust. I rarely turn 'em off so the fan must run a lot... bit of dust...poor cooling.. you know the rest....
Jantimont, the only software that I felt I needed was MS office. I think Appleworks / Pages are a lot better now at X platform stuff but I had customers reporting attachments that wouldn't open - they don't try very hard - but they need to work 1st time, hence I paid for the student edition of MS office (I was doin' some study at the time - my school days are long past...).
