Sovereign nations don't think or act as a collection of individuals. There is no morality, ethics etc when it comes to the interests of a sovereign nation.
Like all wars that have gone before, it's just one mass of unthinking, unforgiving flesh against another, at the command of individuals with their own personal agenda.
That's the drawback of belonging to a nation (even a democratic one).
Genuine democracies would allow for a referendum to enact war. After all - it's the 'people' that suffer the most - not the decision-makers.
And in this age of technology - why can't this be enabled?
