    Hi excelsior

Based on your post we appear to share similar views on taxation.

Governments of both political persuasions have produced our current tax regime. IMO it is already a mind-numbingly complex system that continually increases the take, virtually by stealth. It also pressures almost everyone into the services of expensive 'tax professionals'.

IMO Australia needs to change its priorities & focus on what will enable us to be a more sustainably productive, wealthy & cohesive society. We need to stop the wars, stop buying weapons of mass destruction, stop subisidising big polluters, stop the waste, stop the upper middle class welfare & stop bankrolling private schools. That will enable us to reduce taxes.

Atm Julia Gillard's performance as PM has her ranking alongside Harold Holt, John Gorton & Billy McMahon as our most embarressing modern day PMs. IMO people have already tuned out to her messages. However, they still want Australia to address global warming & IMO do not trust what Tony Abbott is offering.

As for another election just 9 months since the last one; more of them hounding us in the media yet again is not my preference. Whether we like it or not our vote at the last election made Gillard our elected PM & under our constitution she has nothing to gain by doing so.

Let's not forget that Rudd was mandated to act via an ETS but was prevented from doing so in the Senate. Such is our political system - one I think is illegal btw & which needs a major overhaul.

IMO our situation is not that much different from that wherein GWB2 slid into office in questionable circumstances just ahead of Al Gore [under their system Americans also had to wear it until next time].
