Despite the challenges Germany faces in making the transition from Centralised Energy to Decentralised Energy (with a large proportion of Renewables in the mix) it seems as though Germany has committed to this new Energy future for a reason:
I believe Peak Oil has alot to do with it. The German Gov't is well aware of it.

As Brendan Dow said at the Annual Shareholder meeting, Germany is looking at the possibilities of using Fuel Cells to smoothe out the intermittent nature of Renewable Energy : )
