bauxite smelter energy supply

I am really pleased with the mature sharing of ideas being bounced around and would post this new thread to bring a previous discussion to another level.
Given truck transport may not be viable of the bauxite and given the investment in a rail link to the nearest port some say is not feasible (is it feasible ?)
What then are the options? Whilst I wish the discussion of transportation options to be put definitively to bed as its really important, could local smeltering be an option?
If so what would the likely energy sources be to do so ?

To my mind ORD and the Chinese interest have clearly resolved this but its not clear to us investors. I mean there would be no point in JORCing the tenement otherwise would there ?
