Please forgive my naivety on this question.
My understanding regards to short positions is that that stock has to "borrowed" from the owner, so the position is "covered".
My understanding would be that apart from the stock-lending fee, the long-term owner is confident they dont need to sell the stock themselves in the short term.
To my simple mind the large holders (presumably institutions) would not allow their holding to be loaned and shorted, if they believed that it would cause value destruction, other than to be able to buy more at below their percieved value..ie shaking out weak hands.
I know this is an over simplification, and many other stocks have high short % atm.
the good news is the large holders think the price will rise after they have accumulated?
Any clarification, correction or comment on this would be welcome.
( Also dont know if TSX xchange has same rules as ASX?)
