Perth WA - 13 May 2002 - Research-based pharmaceutical company Chemeq Ltd [ASX: CMQ] today announced the appointment of four world-reputed scientists to support the continuing growth of the company: · Dr Robert D Radford, B Eng (Chem)(Hons),PhD (Melb) · Dr Hung Pham, MSc(Berlin), PhD(Berlin) · Dr Matthew Tilbrook, BSc(Hons), PhD, DIC,DipEd(UWA),CChem All three as permanent staff; and re-appointed as consultant: · Prof. Dong-ke Zhang, BEng, MEng(Nanjing), PhD (Newcastle), CEng, FIChemE, CPEng, FIEAust, FAIE, MCombI, MAAEE, MCSA
With construction underway and on schedule, new appointees Dr Radford with Dr Pham will direct Chemeq's ongoing progress of the company's manufacturing facilities at Rockingham, Western Australia. They will work alongside the construction consortium, lead by Transfield, in the development of the world-class facilities. Chemeq's manufacturing facilities at Rockingham. will produce CHEMEQ RTM polymeric antimicrobial - an alternative drug to the use of human antibiotics in animals.
Dr Tilbrook will work within Chemeq's research team to further develop Chemeq's market applications of its polymeric technologies.

Dr Robert Radford, Principal Engineer, has had nearly 30 years' extensive experience as a chemical engineer in the petrochemical and mineral processing industries and at Curtin University where until now, he worked in major roles with Dr Pham to develop Chemeq's pilot-scale plant of the manufacturing facilities. Dr Hung Pham, Senior Engineer, is a specialist chemical engineer with 10 years' experience in catalysis and the development of chemical processes to commercialisation in Europe and Australia. Dr Matthew Tilbrook, Senior Chemist, was formally post- doctoral research chemist at Cambridge University and lecturer in organic chemistry at the University of Western Australia and at Murdoch University.
Prof. Dong-ke Zhang, Director, Centre for Fuels & Energy, Curtin University and Consultant to Chemeq, has directed Chemeq's development of its pilot-scale plant, including its capabilities in catalysis, which are now enabling the company to construct its manufacturing facilities at Rockingham.
CHEMEQ RTM polymeric antimicrobial is to be sold into an $8billion pig and poultry market, with the first commercial stage of the company's manufacturing plant due to be commissioned first quarter 2003. Immediate sales to Asian countries are planned, with world-wide sales to follow.
Chemeq today also announced details of its Share Purchase Plan - available to all shareholders at 7 May 2002, with applications closing on 31 May 2002. Approximately 2,000 shareholders will be eligible to subscribe for up to $3,000 worth of shares. The funds raised will be used to support the construction of the company's manufacturing facilities.
