If they can't get a loan from the normal sources it is probably because they are a credit risk. If you don't ever want to see the money again, then by all means lend it to them. In my experience, people who have to borrow money from friends are those that cannot ever pay it back. I have been ripped off by a more than six figure sum so I know what I am talking about.
