Not to get too political, but I bless our lucky stars that China and the Chinese still have a lot more self-discipline and a control system which can say 'what's what' in contrast to so many of our Western democracies - 1.2 billion people, all being individualistic and democratic can only end badly for the world; particularly in regard to pollution.

BTW I am not a communist and I like living in a free country, but also realise that a lot of my perceived individualism is also subtly controlled by others; richer, more powerful etc. than I am. We have also not progressed greatly in regard to legislation of polluting industries - our individualism gets in the way.

The survivial of a future world containing billions of humans will need tighter controls - I can see no happy end, unless we all - miraculously - become enlightened angels.

Coming back to Lynas: REEs will play an ever-increasing part in our daily lives - just read an article on the Rare Earth blog how our daily lives are becoming increasingly crowded with 'screens' of all sorts. On reading I remembered a movie called 'Rollerball' (30 years old by now) where the state authorities controlled its citizens by means of being connected to everyone via large screens in the living room and orders being issued to the owner/tenant and his family. When you see the willingness, especially of the younger generation to interact with their very own personal screen and the various means of communication via facebook, twitter etc. the possibility of control by others gets closer by the nano-second - and we won't even notice - too busy texting.....

Sorry, this is a bit off-Lynas, but I suggest readers here also check out the ALK thread where there is a brief analysis of Lynas and the future of REEs.

Again, I hadn't realised that Lynas had planned to use an existing plant in Western Australia owned by Ashton as a processing facility. Does anyone know, if this could still be a fall-back position?

    Cheers
