I think that was badly worded - they were always going to carry on drilling regardless.
What they were trying to say there is that the significance of shows in the top 6m of the reservoir (which appears tight - i.e. may not flow) can not be assessed by cuttings and mudlog gas readings - they need to put LWD sensors across that rock to determine if there is any porosity etc. Also, they need to drill the other 260 odd metres and see what fluids and reservoir quality they see there.

It took them from Thursday to Tuesday to run and cement the casing and drill out 40 or 50m... I don't think there is a big mystery there, bit slower than I'd expected though.
