There is little utility in trying to please politicians when the people on the ground are the ones who have the final call on who will mine their land. We know this as fact in light of the High Court decision relating to this matter.

It will be interesting to see whether bully boy tactics, bribing officials and false media reports will alter the current course of events.

As an investor in Axiom, I am pleased to see that Ryan Mount and his colleagues are building relationships with the Solomon Island people rather than diverting scare resources to get caught up in the side show with Sumitomo.

Lets reflect on what Axiom has done of late:

1. Donation to the local hospital; and
2. Sponsorship of the local football team.

Lets reflect on what Sumitomo has not done of late:

1. Failed or refused to pay the substantial legal fees of the Solomon Islanders.

My opinion is that there is clearly cultural barriers that will be very difficult to overcome for Sumitomo.
