    Nice post JC. GM free here too by choice. Chose not to adopt based on attitude to risk. However all my crops are still grown industrially with the average hectare requiring over a barrel of oil (energy equivalent) to manufacture just the nitrogen needed. I know its not sustainable, but it pays the bills and leaves my family with income and hopefully an ability to invest in future agricultural systems that are less dependent on inputs (invariably involves animals). Unfortunately now the livestock sector faces an uncertain future too so it seems I am compelled to keep 'damaging the planet' to feed people that don't realise how many resources are required to keep their bellies full.

    At the end of the day, rising food prices aren't a farmer's problem so change won't be driven by us if we see better profits ahead ...
