Haven't had a look at this yet, but remember as a kid the teacher saying we'd all be working leass and less hours per week as time went on.... and that the retirement age would become younger and younger.
OK, the inevitable comment that that has nothing to do with genetics.... yes, but..
A lot of things come down to economics, demographics.... at one time it looked when work went from working Sat morning to not working.... and then down again from 40 hours to 37.5 hours for many.
However, as we spend and spend... and the baby booomer demographic is aging rapidly..... who will look after them? how will the baby boomers pay for care and have access to all the new wonder drugs etc? Yes, we may also be going into some economic belt tightening....
A farmer said to me recently, he didn't think there was a shortage of food in the world, it's just that some can't afford to pay for it.
The baby boomers (myself included) probably had the best of everything, relative to former and following generations.... however, as we age and have spent up a lot already (therefore our equity might not be quite what we thought it was, because our assets are overvalued... houses, etc)...
The young people may afford to get into a house if the price of housing drops... and in all honesty, though it doesn't suit me, I think the young people deserve that... however, my assets will be worth less in time... and the post-baby boomer govt's around much of the world will be faced with the economic burden of the baby boomers....
Will we be able to buy all the wonder drugs and be living independently into a very old age in our own houses getting home care, etc? Hmmm, not so sure... can society afford it?
