I think that's a bit of "wishing" that there's room for both...the TO's obviously argue differently.

It's all going be settled via legislation, process and political will really. While the cultural issues are important re process (explained by DOR personnel to mass meeting of TO's last year), what I believe will knock GR over, re mining at least, are the environmental issues.

I've always posted here that I have the hunch mapping might proceed, but not in the manner originally postulated by GOT in their Sept 2010 application to the EPBC.

I think it was Blackjack2010 who, as an aside in a post, said something like a few jellyfish will be affected. That seascape has world class environmental values, it's a bloody cathederal of marine environmental significance, in my opinion. Remeber how GOT said they couldn't proceed with the mapping because it was the turtle breeding season? Well I tell you what, much further delay and it will be turtle breeding season again.

Re the "cultural genocide" argument from last night...cultural genocide isn't just an outcome it's also a process. GOT aren't aren't involved in that process at the moment, but in my opinion Gemco are, big, big time, just as the Church Missionary Society was during it's era of ascendency here. (And re what I just posted re Gemco...please don't suggest I get onto the BHP threads with that comment. I don't resile from it I'm just flat out posting here on top of everything else I do...why don't you cut and paste it and get some awareness going on there about the implications of mining for cultural maintenance...I'd wade in if you did but I'm not going to generate that argument on HC until Gemco do something intrusive on their sea based EL's or articulate a project a la GOT)

Clydebigdog, despite my aggressive posting I do understand your alarmm amd worry, amd empathise for that matter...if mapping proceeds and that's the fillip which sees the SP on the rise again, why not just recoup or make a small profit and look elsewhere. I mean to say it is a controversial stock, and the company, in my opinion, hasn't exactly treated it's SH with the respect I believe, and many others posting here, believe they are due.

And in my opinion the roller coaster ride has just began.
