    Good afternoon day traders, an opening summary and whats been happening so far.

    Aus shares opening report: ASX 200 UP 42.6 AT 4494.3 Unit

    Sydney - Tuesday - June 21: (RWE Aust Business News) - The Australian sharemarket opened strongly this morning, buoyed by Wall Street's 76-point advance overnight.

    After 45 minutes of trading the ASX 200 index was up 42.6 points higher at 4494.3 and the All Ordinaries index had improved 40.6 points to 4553.1.

    The September SPI200 futures contract gained 35 points to 4484.

    National Australia Bank was 30c ahead at $24.74, Commonwealth gained 59c to $50.09, ANZ rose 19c to $21.43 and Westpac added 30c to $21.42.

    Miners also found good support with BHP Billiton 57c in front at $41.93, Rio Tinto gained $1.04 to $78.34, OZ Minerals was 19c higher at $12.89, Fortescue Metals improved 8c to $6.10 and Newcrest was up 41c at $36.54.

    Macquarie Group rose 25c to $31.38, IAG put on 4c to $3.44, Westfield Group gained 9c to $8.67, Worleyparsons gained 30c to $28.58, Macarthur Coal dipped 1c to $10.55, Bluescope Steel advanced 2.5c to $1.18, James Hardie rose 5c to $5.44, Orica added 49c to $25.82, Fairfax Media jumped 3c to 97c, Seven West rose 6c to $3.87, Tabcorp improved 5c to $3.16, Flight Centre shed 4c to $19.75, Wesfarmers eased 2c to $31.51, Leighton rose 12c to $20.79, Woolworths gained 22c to $27, Myer Holdings lost 3c to $2.72 and Sonic Healthcare slipped 3c to $11.96.

    In the energy sector Woodside Petroleum advanced 85c to $40.75, Santos gained 23c to $13.37 and Caltex recouped some of yesterday's 78c plunge with a gain of 25c to $10.85.

    In New Zealand the NZX 50 index eased 0.9 of a point to 3466.5 while Tokyo's Nikkei was 70 points higher at 9424.

    Gold is worth $US1,541.65 oz and the Australian dollar is changing hands at US105.99c

    Some share price moves to keep an eye on in the market:

    FOSTER'S GROUP (FGL) up 57c to $5.10: Rejected an unsolicited, incomplete, non-binding and conditional takeover proposal from SABMiller via a scheme of arrangement at $4.90 cash per share. Foster's spinoff Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) is up 14c to $3.45.

    FORTIS MINING (FMJ) up 29.5c to $1.30: Follows two-day fall of 55.5c after advising it had not reached any agreements for further investments or acquisitions in Kazakhstan. When queried by the ASX, Fortis said it could not explain the selling.

    NRW HOLDINGS (NWH) up 10c to $2.66: Secured a framework agreement with Rio Tinto's (RIO) Iron Ore business, formalising their long-term relationship. It placed NRW in a preferred contractor position for two streams of earthworks contracts over five years.

    MINCOR RESOURCES (MCR) up 4.5c to 87c: Announced on-market buyback of up to 20.018m shares, being 10pc of its share capital.

    GROWTHPOINT PROPERTIES AUSTRALIA (GOZ) up 1.5c to $1.97: Announced a fully underwritten 1-for-4.4 issue to raise $102.6m at $1.90 per security. The rights offer was increased to partially fund an office investment opportunity, the $77.9m Energex Building at Nundah, Qld.

    SILVER LAKE RESOURCES (SLR) up 4.5c to $1.68: Touched $1.72. The 520m-deep ventilation shaft at its Mount Monger Operations, 50km SE of Kalgoorlie, was completed on time and for the budgeted amount of $5m.

    CHARTER HALL GROUP (CHC) up 9c to $2.14: Bought a further 3.3pc stake in Charter Hall Office REIT (CQO) from NY-based hedge fund Fir Tree Capital. It brought total CHC ownership in CQO to 13.3pc.

    PLATINUM AUSTRALIA (PLA) up 3.5c to 33c: Went as high as 35.5c. Underground production at Smokey Hills in northern South Africa has continued to recover after the restart of mining on June 1.

    CAPE LAMBERT RESOURCES (CFE) up 1.5c to 41.5c: Results from ground geophysical surveys and trench and rock chip sampling at the Kukuna Iron Ore Project in Sierra Leone confirmed extensive distribution of specular hematite schist and highlighted priority drill targets.

    NYOTA MINERALS (NYO) up 6c to 25c: Rebounding from downtrend. Last major announcement was a month ago
