Thanks for the link yellowcake - interesting reading.
I have been reading alot about Aquaponics this week - really interesting, highly productive and scalable. Will be Interesting to watch how it develops. I hope to set up a 1000L tank version this year.
Like Permaculture, Australia is a world leader in Aquaponics also.
I would say that we need to make maximum use of Organic avenues and then use fertilizers as is necessary in a way that is sustainable and monitor the life in the soil. Specifically trying to improve soil life quality through increasing Effective Micro-bacteria, and worms. Leaving dirt unexposed to the sun, interplanting and/or rotating nitrogen fixing legume crops. Investing in better Water Harvesting. Bringing more pest predators into growing areas. All this can be greatly increased before going down the GMO route.
Experimentation and Education better than regulation. I would be interested to see intelligently designed "efficient organic cycling systems that outperform fertilizer and monoculture - on a small scale I believe it can be done, on broad scale with machine harvesting - we have a long way to go.
As for sewage - absolutely should be biologically processed and the nutrients cycled back into food or least lumber systems. Anything else is ridiculous.
Nice to see some Green in the portfolio today also!
