Indonesia's biggest importer of cattle says the country is unlikely to reissue live export permits to Australia.

Quarterly permits expired yesterday for both cattle and frozen beef shipments.

Bruce Warren, from Sentori, says applications won't be processed until the trade resumes.

"With the trade being closed as it is, nobody is really going to apply for permits because we know that there's no point," he said.

"The department here won't actually issue new permits because there is no trade, so I think, no point."
