If I relied purely on charts and didn't have a clue how to analyse a company and the business it is in then of course I would use stop losses.
I rely on my own analysis. So I have NEVER EVER had a fixed stop loss sell price. I judge each situation on its own merits. I also do not make sell decisions based on fear.
In my opinion, why should I have sold out of IGR in the 30s when the gold was in the US$1500s, and IGR's gold mining and exploration were coming along just fine? Why should I sell out because of some random low ball stop loss price just because some investors were irrationally selling down IGR or maybe even playing the stock in order to accumulate?
In the 30s and low 40s was a time for me to be topping up in IGR, not selling down imo.
