CO2 is not a toxic gas. At Lake Nyos the CO2 concentrated at ground level because CO2 gas is denser than our atmosphere which contains only 0.4% CO2. The result was that the villagers suffocated due to lack of oxygen. This is not the same thing as being poisoned.
