I was reading about stainless, trying to find out why my submersible bore pump corrodes. According to wiki: Stainless steels contain sufficient chromium to form a passive film of chromium oxide, which prevents further surface corrosion and blocks corrosion from spreading into the metal's internal structure. There would certainly be no O2 deep in a bore.
Note the chrome! I'm confused. :)
Doesn't stainless use Ni? If it does indeed contain 10% chrome, who mines it and why isn't it's price of interest?
