The problem with POSCO, or someone else outside of China, is that it is likely to damage the relationship between China and Cameroon Government.
If you take a step back and look at the project, for it to go ahead you will find that:
- Cameroon Government needs to be involved (Its their Land) - The Chinese need to be involved (Finance and Offtake)
If there is one party that doesn't really need to be involved and can possibly be squeezed out, it has to be Sundance, being just a small exploration company from Australia.
I have no doubt that Cameroon and China could pull this off much cheaper, if they cut out Sundance as the middle man. The question is how strong is George's relationship and influence with the Cameroon Government and what sort of defensive strategy has he got in place to prevent this from happening.
