If this is an example of your knowledge of chemistry then you are woefully ignorant.
" Carbon dioxide pollution is a meaningless phrase. Similarly, carbon-pollution is also a bit of an oddity, because pure carbon is mostly soot, which in the air soon falls harmlessly to the ground."
Any chemical in excess may be considered pollution. High oxygen levels in a humidicrib for example, may contribute to eyesight damage in babies. It is the excess CO2 released into the atmosphere that is causing our current problem with filthy carbon pollution. Fortunately in Oz, we are just starting to do something about it.
Then you dribble on about soot falling "harmlessly" to the ground. This is another lie. The reality, if you knew your chemistry is that pollutants are often identified by their significant element. Consider mercury poisoning or chromium poisoning or lead poisoning or arsenic poisoning as examples. How often is the "poison" present as a chemical element? All of these elements may be pollutants if released into the environment as excessive amounts of waste compounds.
