"Some retail shareholders are disppointed at the sale, which values the stock at less than when Santos bought its initial 20 per cent stake two yeras ago, and comes ahead of an expected upgrade in CSG reserves next month.

An Eastern Star spokesman said institutional shareholders supported the deal and that it was only a "a small, noisy element of retail shareholders" that seemed critical".
