re: looks like corby is going to prison I had to change then heading because the death sentence has never been previously handed out in Indonesia for this type of drug offence. In a recent case a French national (I think), man, was caught with a greater quantity of cannabis and was jailed. A women would generally be treated more lenient than a man in a case such as this.
Most of the complaints against the judiciary in Indonesia has been of people seemingly guilty of some offence buying a not guilty verdict. In those cases it was obvious who had the capacity to pay and who didn't. Things changed a few years ago when the court convicted Tommy Suharto of fraud against the state. Unfortunately one of the judges who handed down the verdict was assasinated whilst driving to work one day, but the verdict was not changed and Tommy went to jail, and is still there I think. Of course he has quite a comfortable time inside, as could Corby if convicted. If she has funds available, and friends outside, she may find life in a Balinese jail better than what it would be here.
