The one major difference is that what the DJIA does will markedly affect the XJO but what the XJO does will have no impact on the DJIA
Apart from that the DJIA is the index from which all other markets generally take their cue except for the nikkei post '87 for a few years .
Maybe in these unusual times other markets might disentangle themselves from the DJIA but I don't think so .Sadly the USof A is what counts
