Mining under lakes always carry some risks.

The big difference between lake cowan and cigar lake is that cigar lake is always full.

Still the fact that it isnt always full doesnt eliminate the risk.

There are many examples of succesful mining under lakes. Norseman gold currently mines under lake cowan and have been for some times.

Coal mines in the hunter region have succesfully mined under lake maquarie for decades, dealing with constant water ingress.

My favourite being Diavik in Canada. They actual built dykes to hold back the lake, before going open cut. Now converted to underground (see below)



Mining under lakes is nothing new but has its associated costs and risks. Certainly nothing to be afraid of.
It all comes down to the costs of being able to do it safely compared to the reward. Thats up to management to work out and inform us of in time.

As for your 10 cents, I hope you didnt need it soon.
